I have had several copies and I always give them to people who seem kinda lost or looking for their path in life to borrow...I never get them back, but I don't mind because they are always so thankful for the light it sheds on God's plan for each individual.
Even if you are not a Christian I think you can take the ideas that are used to see that each of us are here for a specific purpose, how to realize it and how to achieve it.

If you haven't taken world history I and II, read a book about world history. Read it closely. It will knock your socks off.

Dune. That blew my head off when I was 18.
I would totally read Oh, the places you'll go! (Dr. Seuss). I read it when I was 18, and now that I'm a little older and have been through a lot, I could almost cry reading it again for how true it is.

Read The Patriot Act. Cover to cover. It'll scare you.
Read the constitution.
Read books by the author of Disgrace. I forgot his name, but he's a pulitzer prize winner I think.
100 Years of Solitude.
Read a few good philosophers. I'm sorry I can't recommend anyone, but I don't read philosophy.
If you want a life changing book, write one. Or if you don't want to do that, write a record of your life until now and what you've learned. Start journaling. Also write down your philosophical beliefs and why they are what they are.
A good history of the middle east would probably also do you good.
