Is your story a realistic fiction, fantasy, or some other genre? Not knowing what your story is about, here are some secrets that I can think of that would affect/change someone and others around them, perhaps:
-A person finding out that one of their parents is a past criminal (and perhaps that comes back to haunt the family).
-A person finding out they have 'long lost' siblings that they never knew about.
-A person finding out that one of their parents has a career (a surprising career, perhaps) that is different from what they've always been told.
-A person finding out that they are adopted, or that their parents aren't really their parents in some way or another.
