Is anybody really changing there life style to control global warming?

I have started taking an electric train, and bicycling the additional 11 miles each way to work. What do you do?Is anybody really changing there life style to control global warming?i usually plant trees(986 to be exact) ride a bike, and encourage others to do the same, i discourage the use of disposable plastics mostly and eat vegetables rather than processed meat as vegies are natural food and can be eaten without cooking which saves gas and electicity(in consideration to the fridge which i have not used for 2 years already)Is anybody really changing there life style to control global warming?absolutely nothing!!Is anybody really changing there life style to control global warming?nothing...Is anybody really changing there life style to control global warming?I walk to work and back everyday, live downtown and walk basically everywhere I need to go or use public transportation if it%26#039;s too far. I use reusable grocery bags; don%26#039;t use plastic produce bags; buy organic and local as much as possible. We separate our trash in my city, so anything possible gets recycled. I wash in cold water; use vinegar and water as a cleaner instead of standard cleaners. I have any electronics on a power bar and shut it off when finished. I keep only the lights on in the room I%26#039;m in and shut everything off when leaving. I put plastic on my windows in the winter to keep the heat in and don%26#039;t use a/c in the summer (I use a fan that kicks on depending on the temperature in the room). I control my water usage as much as possible, shutting off the tap when washing my hands or brushing my teeth, not flushing as much, etc. I%26#039;ve also given meetings at work to try to educate co-workers on how to adapt a more green lifestyle.

So yes, I think I%26#039;ve changed my lifestyle quite a bit and I think we all should be if we want our children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews to have a habitable planet. Great question! Is anybody really changing there life style to control global warming?Sure had to come out of retirement, so me and the wife could eat. No trains where I reside, to far to pedal and is unsafe. I just drive a lot more then I used to.Is anybody really changing there life style to control global warming?Absolutely-------- nothing. Is anybody really changing there life style to control global warming?Mostly conserve energy; more insulation, programmable thermostat, compact fluorescent bulbs, etc.. I%26#039;ve always bought economical cars.

I also pay a small voluntary surcharge on my utility bill to help finance wind power.

And I%26#039;ll vote for people who make this a priority. Is anybody really changing there life style to control global warming?It%26#039;s not global warming that changed my lifestyle, it was the global economy. But because of that, I don%26#039;t drive near as much anymore. That%26#039;s a lot of gasoline saved. I changed all the light bulbs in the house and that%26#039;s saving some electricity. So I%26#039;m doing what I can due to the circumstances that were forced upon me.Is anybody really changing there life style to control global warming?Probably not. I suspect all people who do things like you are doing would still do them anyway, even if there were no worries about global warming. They would worry about smog or traffic or oil spills or whatever was the most popular environmental cause at the moment. Is anybody really changing there life style to control global warming?I spend 2 1/2 hours riding buses between home and work when I could drive there and back in under 1 hour. I do loads of little things, like reducing my consumption as much as possible and recycling just about everything I put my hands on. I also volunteer and work for environmental causes. Is anybody really changing there life style to control global warming?I don%26#039;t think of it as change, but more of an adjustment. I%26#039;m far more consious of how what I do impacts the environment, for instance. If I have time to kill in between work and and an evening meeting, instead of rushing home, wolfing dinner and driving almost right back where I was, I%26#039;m taking a change of clothes with me and taking a walk and reading and eating a picnic dinner. Driving better, to optimize fuel. Planting as many trees as my yard will support. We%26#039;re painting the spare bedroom, and we picked %26quot;Care Free %26#039;Earth Coat%26#039;, an eco-friendly paint with very low VOC. I am trying to get back in shape for the ride to work, which is a few miles further than I%26#039;m comfortable cycling right now, because the final portion is uphill. But I%26#039;m working on it!

Glad you can take a train. Do you enjoy it or is it more a %26#039;doing your duty/saving money%26#039; kind of thing? Is anybody really changing there life style to control global warming?I don%26#039;t really believe there is global warming. But, still I feel it is good to care for the environment, and to live healthy. I walk and ride my bike take the bus,I recycle,I%26#039;m a vegetarian, and I use environmentally friendly products...I think it%26#039;s right. Is anybody really changing there life style to control global warming?I don%26#039;t do anything I didn%26#039;t do before. No need to. I don%26#039;t run my AC all the time, I drive only when I need to, and I don%26#039;t have every light on in the house.

But I%26#039;m not worried about global warming either, my daily activities do not contribute to the changing weather, which has been relatively cool.

Edit: So a thumbs down for not using electricity or gasoline when I don%26#039;t have to. Y%26#039;all AGW%26#039;ers are a confusing sort, I thought that was what we were being encouraged to do. (Makes note to buy Hummer and keep windows open with AC on. )Is anybody really changing there life style to control global warming?I think that my family does our part, but we could do more. We recycle cans and cardboard, have reusable shopping bags, some CFL light bulbs, etc. We do not own bikes or Hybrids but we try to get the most gas mileage out of our car that we can, plus we don%26#039;t have trains or buses that run in our town so that isn%26#039;t an option. Is anybody really changing there life style to control global warming? We went green as we could afford back in the 70%26#039;s, when the initial energy crisis hit. We used public transit in Montreal, grew our own garden, composted, insulated the 4-plex we owned, switched to heating by hydro.

When we moved to our present farm, we built a passive solar home, and planted our walnut orchard and a woodlot to provide for home heating. Over the years we have chosen the most efficient electrical appliances and lighting.

But I had to work off the farm, so I drove a little sipper... at least managed to get to work with less fuel than most people driving within the city.

We have always composted, so that is not a recent change, and it was not started because of global warming. Nor was our use of economical car or appliances, nor was our building our solar home. Our growing our own food is not driven primarily because of global warming. We recover all of our waste water for irrigation and irrigate our walnut trees, our garden. We have more immediate reasons for this, but irrigation does offer a strong opportunity to recover CO2, convert it to oxygen.

We mulch our garden to get the best growth with the least water. Is anybody really changing there life style to control global warming?I got rid of my car a year ago; if I absolutely need one I rent (plus it is actually cheaper for me than owning a car because I have no insurance, depreciation, or maintenance costs).

My housemate will confirm I am a stickler for recycling and as often as possible I take reusable bags when shopping. When I must use plastic bags they go to recycling as well. I still detest that I can%26#039;t do much regarding overpackaging in general.

My work generally involves flying to remote sites and/or taking the company shuttle. If there were a train available I would take it; a train is 5X more efficient per seat as a car or plane. I do bike for leisure but generally take public transit if I have to travel in downtown traffic (for obvious reasons).

Like you I do need to update some inefficient appliances but in lieu I am working on a system for integrating household appliances so that wasted energy is recovered and reused.

I don%26#039;t know if all the food I eat is grown locally, probably not, the environment is prairie and %26quot;one does not live on bread alone%26quot;. I have replaced most of the household lighting with more efficient models. And ... I waste very little; if I don%26#039;t NEED it, I don%26#039;t buy it ... I have outlived the 18-34 beer commercial demographic. Is anybody really changing there life style to control global warming?I%26#039;m taking my mobile home and redoing the interior to be all green. Currently I%26#039;m in the process of removing the carpeting. I will be installing a Bamboo floating floor thru-out the home. I%26#039;ve used %26quot;green paint%26quot;, changed out all the lightbulbs to the energy efficient ones, I%26#039;ve put all new appliances that are Energy Star products including an Energy Star furnace and waterheater. I use the water saver features in my shower and on my kitchen sink.

I also have taken the plastic bags from the stores and ironed them together to make rugs and a new dog collar. I have 3 reusable bags that I take with me shopping.

I live in rural america and there is no such thing as electric train, taxi, buses, etc. in this area. I have to drive 22 miles one way to work. I set the cruise control on my car, I coast whenever possible, and I get right around 30 mpg on a minivan.

I would love to someday build a Deltec Home. Please see www.deltec.comIs anybody really changing there life style to control global warming?I replaced an old oil heater with a heat pump, replaced the windows and doors and super-insulated the attic to the tune of $8000. Cut oil use by 2/3 and total energy use by 1/2.

Bought a used 2003 Echo for $9000, replacing a van that got 18mpg. It%26#039;s gets 38mpg on a bad day, 40.5mpg using some hypermiling techniques. Can%26#039;t seem to do any better than 42-43 mpg. Any suggestions?

We buy used. Mostly hand me down clothes for the kids. Buy only what we need. Shop mostly at Whole Foods to (supposedly) support organic farming.

I guess it comes down to living a minimal lifestyle. No big extravagant travel, flying around the country, driving all over hell and back everyday with activities.

I just bought an acre next to one I already own. My goal in life now is to retire, retire my car and oil heater and grow vegetables chickens and fish.

I%26#039;ll feed and house my kids when there%26#039;s nothing left for them, and they can entertain me in my old age.

I think about the lifestyle of my parents, less than 100 years ago. No TV, no car for frivolous driving, no where to go nothing to do but stay on the farm most of the time, work, live and love. Kind of a scary thought, but sobering, humbling. I envy those who have this and aspire to it.

Things will come full circle.

edit: more ideas.

I collect tools and scrap / extra materials and try to fix everything rather than replace it. I have tools and wood and nuts and bolts and all sorts of stuff from my grandfather, father, older brother. Nothing pleases me better than to walk out to the garage and produce a needed tool or part without having to run out and buy it...

I think it%26#039;s an attitude. Take only what you need. Have a sense of %26quot;enoughness%26quot;. I don%26#039;t want any more than I need, any more would be immoral.

Easy to say, but tough to do in our modern world. Like I said, things will come full circle. Is anybody really changing there life style to control global warming?I found a job close to my home to save on travel, and I try to combine shopping trips so I can save gas like that also.

During the winter I don%26#039;t heat my whole house (and since I live alone I just keep one room heated and that only to about 60掳F).

During the summer I only use fans, no air conditioning (it is now 85掳 F in my house).

I try to recycle things as much as I can, though I hope our city will get more recycling, they are talking about getting recycling pickup services soon.Is anybody really changing there life style to control global warming?i thought i knew so much about global warming until i read all these people who don%26#039;t belive in it and all their reasons make sense... and it just confuses me about what to think. i try to do things that can help prevent global warming, i drive less, but thats only because of the gas prices.. i found a good tip to put a brick or 2 liter of water in your toilets tank, it saves 16 % water everytime you flush. my parents dont have money to buy those lightbulbs but they will when the light bulbs we have burn out since they have to buy one anyways.. it just sucks so bad right now the earth economy everything, and it takes a toll on me to. im constintally worrying about things, especially my credit card bills and how im going to make it to work tomorrow..Is anybody really changing there life style to control global warming?I drive a bit less but only because the cost of gas is so high! Otherwise, nothing at all. Global warming isn%26#039;t real so trying to rectify it is kind of useless! It%26#039;s hard to fight a ghost. Is anybody really changing there life style to control global warming?I%26#039;ve made many small changes over the last two years.

Earth Day in 2006 was my catalyst for change.

I%26#039;ve gradually replaced my light bulbs, use canvas bags,

buy products with the least possible packaging, use earth friendly cleansers.

I stopped buying five cases of water a month. I now use a Brita pitcher.

Recycle. Use much less gasoline. Buy less %26quot;stuff%26quot;.

I%26#039;ve also reached the point of semi-vegetarianism. I do eat dairy and fish.

Four or five times a year I run into a situations, at family visits, where the lesser

of two evils for me is to just eat the roast.

I%26#039;ve come a long way - for a former self-indulgent registered conservative. Is anybody really changing there life style to control global warming?Plaster Pasta Master - I applaud your reduction in energy use. I do happen to accept AGW theory and I suspect other who do may thumb you down because you didn%26#039;t reduce energy due to climate change. I%26#039;m not saying it%26#039;s right, but that%26#039;s the way it is.

Anyway, I have changed my lifestyle, not because of the cost of energy, but for the environment. Some of the things I have done...

1. Purchased a Prius hybrid (we have no public transportation)

2. Replaced all my old windows with the most efficient low-E windows I could find

3. Installed a radiant barrier in the attic (getting ready to purchase solar fans to help ventilate the hot, attic air)

4. added additional insulation

5. Purchased Energy Star appliances

6. Use canvas bags when grocery shopping

7. Recycle glass, aluminum, plastic and paperIs anybody really changing there life style to control global warming? Our public transportation system in most of America is still way too inconvenient. That%26#039;s very true for where I live. I have started talking with my friends about the places I%26#039;m going to go and asking if I can pick things up for them and my friends do the same. It helps a little.

I also have two refrigerators and a freezer! I think that what happened with that is we all have those counter-depth refrigerators to make the refrigerator level with the cabinets and countertops - and they%26#039;re small - so we end up with our old refrig. in the garage! I%26#039;ve thought of getting rid of the freezer, though. Is anybody really changing there life style to control global warming? There is nothing any of us can do to control a natural process as large in scope as global warming. I%26#039;m hoarding light bulbs...plan to sell them at a huge profit in short order. Thanks government intrusion...Is anybody really changing there life style to control global warming?this is ridiculous. i love how EIGHTHUNDRED scientists met at a convention and proved global warming wrong, and now everyone is STILL worried about it. and by the way, LIBERAL and REPUBLICAN scientists have ALL switched their opinions to %26quot;global change%26quot; not %26quot;global warming%26quot;. and why does the planet Mars have global warming, when their is no cars being driven? because every planet%26#039;s atmosphere changes. in the 1500%26#039;s, we had global warming, and we surely didnt have cars or hairspray then! get your facts straight. Is anybody really changing there life style to control global warming?Nope, its asinine to believe we can destroy the planet. period. Is anybody really changing there life style to control global warming? The Environmentalist Movement: Not a grassroots phenomenon driven by scruffy idealists but an elite-driven movement that lards the coffers of pressure campaigns with wealth - commonly inherited, often corporate, and far too-frequently looted from the taxpayerIs anybody really changing there life style to control global warming?no. Al Gore is full of himself. Is anybody really changing there life style to control global warming? You can %26quot;change%26quot; your life all you want but you can%26#039;t change the weather, and there%26#039;s no point in trying. The Earth goes through cycles. It%26#039;s been around for billions of years, and it is still here today. Is anybody really changing there life style to control global warming?Nothing, But I do like to run my fireplace after I turn the AC down to about 55
