Of course, it isn't easy to get over it, but with time, wounds will heal.
I guess why the personality changes is that the person who got hurt will want to get away from the lifestyle they had before because it might potentially remind them of the person who hurt them, or anything that lead to it and whatnot, so they try to change it by distracting themselves with anything or trying new things to feel like they're accomplishing something.
